April Glossybox

First of all, I absolutely love the box this month! It is an exclusive one, designed by Pearl Lowe, and it’s gorgeous! I'm trying to think what I can store in it so that I can keep it- it’s way too pretty to throw away! Here is what I got in the this month's Glossybox:

Essie nail polish

Model Co Lip and Cheek Tint

Sun Sense SPF 50 Sun Cream

Yves Rocher 'So Elixir' Perfume

Nip and Fab Body Butter

Overall, I love the Essie nail varnish, and the rest I think is ok/ good, but in all honestly, I don’t think I would have bought any of them. The suncream I like- it is specifically for your face and is supposed to be mattifying, so this will be really good for the summer. I’ve never heard of Model Co before, but will be interested in comparing this tint to the Benefit Posie Tint which I really like- a cheaper alternative would be a great find if it’s as good! The perfume is nice but quite heavy so it will be good for taking away with me for an evening do. Finally, the body butter will definitely get used and I will be comparing it to my favoured Body Shop ones, having not tried the Nip and Fab ones before.

However, I'm beginning to think that maybe it would be better for my purse if I didn’t keep my subscription for Glossybox, as, in reality, I would just have paid £8 for the nail varnish and not bought the rest. Yet, I do look forward to getting it every month as it’s a lovely surprise. Hmm... as I'm in two minds about continuing, I will see what next month’s box has to offer and then take it from there.

Does anyone else subscribe to Glossybox? What do you think about it? What items did you get in your box this month?

Price: £13 a month (including p+p) for the subscription

OOTD: Midi March

Dress: Glamorous
Jacket: H&M
Necklace: Miss Selfridge
Bag: Mulberry
Shoes: Topshop

Midi dresses are great for a low-maintenance touch of glamour. They are so versatile as they can be dressed up for an evening out with heels and some bling, or down with a jacket and sandals for during the day. I've gone for the more casual approach for a day's shopping and a meal in town. The wedge boots are really comfortable but also make me feel a bit more dressed up and elegant than flats do. The Mulberry bag is one of my favourite ever purchases- I saved for months last year to get it- I love it so much that I'm almost scared to use it as I don't want it to get messed up!

What do you think? Is anyone else a fan of midi dresses?

My Wardrobe Staples

These items are my wardrobe staples: what I think should form the backbone and the basis of everyone's clothing collection. With these pieces you will always have something to wear, they will go with anything that you buy, so they really are worth investing in.

First up is my leather jacket. This is my favourite item of clothing (regular readers may have gathered that from the amount of outfit posts that it features in!). I was lucky enough to get it as a birthday present a few years ago (granted I did give my lovely boyfriend a little help picking it!) but it is something that I will keep forever. It only looks better with age- as all good quality leather does, so it really is worth saving up to buy a real leather one as it goes with everything, always looks good and it keeps you really warm!

Next up is the black blazer. This little bad boy is so versatile; from adding a smart-chic look to jeans, to complementing a dress for work. Again, good quality shows in the blazer and it is worth the investment as it goes with so much and will keep for a very long time.

The denim jacket is my next staple item. It generally replaces my leather jacket or black blazer during the summer months when its a little warmer. It looks great over dresses or with skirts and tops.

Next, quite simply, is a nice black and a nice white top. The one's pictured are two that I am wearing a lot and loving at the moment. They do not necessarily have to be expensive- the white one shown here is from Topshop and the black one is from New Look- and you can never have too many. They go with EVERYTHING and are essential for teaming with statement trousers/ leggings/ skirts/ jackets.

Finally, I think a well-fitting pair of jeans is an essential in anyone's wardrobe. The ones pictured are from Diesel and they fit like a glove (which is saying something for me because I have bigger thighs and a smaller waist, meaning that most jeans end up sliding down my bum when I sit down!). Although jeans probably won't last you forever, a good pair will be worn over and over again so I do think it is worth spending a bit more on them. When cheaper ones have been washed quite a few times then they tend to go a bit baggy/ out of shape. Saying that, Miss Selfridge's skinny jeans at approximately £37 are really comfortable and flattering on me- but then I haven't had them very long so time will tell how they last- at that price I don't mind buying them again in about a year!

So, they are my wardrobe staples. What do you think? Do you own all these items? Do you think there are any other staples that I haven't mentioned? I can think of a few that are possibles but I'm saving that for another post!

OOTD: It's In The Jeans...

Top: Mango
Necklace: Miss Selfridge
Jeans: Miss Selfridge
Shoes: New Look
Bag: Warehouse

Sometimes the best outfits are the simplest. Skinny jeans, a nice top and heels is a combination that will always achieve good results. I love how it looks like minimal effort but is flattering- it's casual enough to not look OTT for evening drinks, but smart/ sexy enough to make you feel a million dollars :)

Mango have got some gorgeous tops in store right now- this one was one of many that I wanted to buy! The jeans are from Miss Selfridge and come in quite a few different colours of blue. They're so comfy and flattering, I think I might go back and get them in a darker shade too!

Secondly, I am so sorry for the lack of posts up recently, the block of flats that I'm living in has not had the internet for nearly two weeks now (the landlord is installing a new service provider). This could not have come at a worse time- I have so many new posts that have been drafted, ready to put on (I am currently quickly nipping on a friend's computer!). I have been promised  that it will be running as normal again tomorrow and so should be able to post some then! Thank you for your patience and all your support in the mean time xx

Empties

This is my first 'Empties' post in what will become a series, where I will briefly review products that I have recently finished. These are all the products that I have recently used up....

Johnson's 24 hour moisture radiance hand cream
- A fantastic hand cream. It really makes a difference to my chapped hands. The butter smell is gorgeous and feels like it really works. It sinks in quickly and is not greasy at all (full review here). Repurchase? Yes definitely, it's a total bargain!

Aussie Mega Shampoo
- I bought this shampoo for two reasons: one because I loved the smell (and it lasts in your hair all day too which is nice) and two because it sounded like it would give my hair a thorough clean, removing all trace of products. It really does make my hair feel very clean. My only criticism would be that it looks/ feels almost too clean- which isn't necessarily a bad thing for a lot of people! (Full review here). Repurchase? Yes probably.

Clarins Self Tanning Milk
- My favourite ever fake tan and the only one to not leave any streaks (although I always apply it with a mit). Full review here. Repurchase? Yes definitely, this is not my first bottle and it certainly won't be my last!

Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser
- This is the first time I've used this cleanser and it's lasted me absolutely ages- especially considering I use it every day. It has tamarind beads in it which makes it slightly exfoliating and so really cleans your pores. I've got oily/ combination skin and it's worked really well for it (full review here). Repurchase? Yes, most probably.

Benefit They're Real Mascara
- This mascara certainly makes a big impact. I love the effect that it creates and think it is well worth the hype (full review here). My only concern is that it did run out quite quickly- sooner than I expected. Repurchase? Yes, I have done already, but not sure if I will be able to afford to keep doing so if it runs out every month!

No. 7 Brown Eyeliner
- Another trusy product that I have been buying for years. They never run or smudge and stay on all day (full review here). The brown is a perfect colour for my eyes and I always wear it during the day as it's not too heavy. Repurchase? Yes, will keep buying the No 7 eyeliners for a long time I think!

Benefit That Gal Primer
- My mini sample of this primer has finally come to an end. It has lasted an impressive amount of time considering how small the bottle is! I love it, it has kept my makeup looking fresh all day and staying put, combating the shine that comes with oily skin (full review here). Repurchase? Yes, definitely!

Mitchum Deodrant
- I've been using this deodrant for years and will continue to do so. Unlike spray deodrants that I've tried it completely stops me sweating/ smelling and never leaves any yellow stains on my clothes. Repurchase? Yes, definitely.

Clarins Exfoliating Mask
-This is without a doubt the best face mask or exfoliator I've ever tried! It's only a sample size but I got quite a few uses out of it. It made my face really bright and fresh after using it, and gave it a thorough clean (full review here). Repurchase? Yes I will definitely be buying the full size version!

That's it! Has anyone else tried any of these products? What did you think?

Nails Inc St James

Three Days Later!
The perfect match for my dress
This is just a short post as red nails aren't anything new, but this Nails Inc St James deserves a mention as it is my absolute favourite red nail varnish of all time! I received it as part of my Glossybox last month and it went perfectly with a red dress that I had for a wedding (as you can see from the picture above!). The colour was thick, vibrant and, best of all, it stayed on for over three days chip-free! I will definitely be purchasing a full size version of this now!

Is anyone else a fan of Nails Inc nail varnishes?

Price: £11 for a full size pot

Pay Day Shopping Haul!

A combination of Easter, pay day, a spring clear out, recent work stress and some bad news prompted me to have a well-deserved shopping spree! I wanted to avoid going in all my regular shops (having sorted out my wardrobe I realised how many Topshop clothes I really do have!) and so ventured into others, such as Mango and Zara, that I haven't been in for a while. I didn't actually buy anything from Zara in the end (although we did bump into Phil Jones- the Manchester United defender- which was rather exciting!) but saw some nice things in there. Ditto with makeup- instead of going to my usual counters I went to Origins, Armani and Lush to try something new.

I bought three tops in Mango. The red one is such a bold and gorgeous colour that I couldn't resist! The two white ones are a big different and will go with anything. After clearing out my wardrobe I found that I was definitely lacking in plain tops, so these were exactly what I was looking for. I also bought a bag from Warehouse to go with some nude shoes for an upcoming wedding, and a lovely white, floral top.

I've never bought any Origins products before but love the fact that they use all natural ingredients. I've got problematic skin at the moment and so these spot treatment products seemed just the ticket. The pads are used in place of toner in your night time routine (but in the morning just use your toner as normal). They are slightly exfoliating and are supposed to unclog all your pores and therefore clearout and prevent spots. The spot treatment gel speaks for itself really- you dab a bit onto the spot and it will heal it and reduce redness. Fingers crossed these both work!

I've had my eye on this Armani foundation for a while (The Maestro one). The lovely lady at the concession matched the right shade to my face and applied it all over. The results were fantastic, my skin looked so much better! It is specially designed for oily or problematic skin, and contains lotus flower which actually treats it- therefore helping your skin and acting as a skin care product while also doing its job as a foundation! It's a medium coverage but can be built upon, and lasts 12 hours. I can't wait to start using this regularly and will review it when I've been using it for a while! The Armani lipstick was a gorgeous natural shade- it moisturised my lips, made them glossy but not too shiny and was not at all sticky!

I've wanted to try a Lush Lip Scrub for ages now and I finally bought one! I've had dry and chapped lips recently and so my lipstick has not looked good when applied as it emphasises the chapped-ness. The scrub is meant to exfoliate and smooth your lips- and it tastes AMAZING!

Finally I bought my trusty John Frieda hair dye- this time in Deep Cherry Brown for a slight change- review to follow soon :)

What do you think? Anyone else got or want to try/buy any of these? Has anyone else been on a shopping spree recently?

Makeup Storage

For the last year my makeup collection has got bigger and bigger and has slowly become a messy pile on my dresser. I knew I needed to sort it out when it was taking me ages to find items and forgetting that I had others. A trip to IKEA over the bank holiday weekend did just the trick. This storage draw is neat, tidy, and it fits all my makeup in with plenty of extra room for more! I love the dividers, it makes it so easy to categorise my makeup and to keep it organised with minimum effort. For only £13 this really was a bargain. I bought two glass vases as well: one for my brushes and one for my nail varnishes (£2.25 each). Lastly, I got two tea light holders (50p each) for a little bit of decoration.

What do you think? How do you store your makeup?

OOTD: Flower Power!

Top: New Look
Necklace: Bought on holiday in Spain
Trousers: ASOS
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

Spring may be taking a while to appear in the UK at the moment, but these trousers brighten up my outfit regardless! It was nice to see the sun this bank holiday weekend (even if the temperatures were still pretty low) so I decided to dress all summery :) I love statement trousers; they are so easy to wear and make such a big impact. I especially love the colours in these ones from ASOS. The top is a classic. The collar makes it interesting and it can be worn with anything; smart and classy yet simple.  The shoes are nude Jeffrey Campbells and have little spikes all over them (but not sharp ones thank goodness else I'd be stabbing myself in legs all day!).

What items are you loving for spring? Is anyone else rocking the statement trousers at the moment?!
