Leggings: American Apparel
Trainers: Puma c/o Get The Label*
Sometimes I have days where all I want to be is comfortable. I will literally rebel against wearing the many pretty dresses and skirts that I have in my wardrobe, and instead want to wear sweatpants, hoodies and trainers. Instead of fighting this comfy urge, I have simply decided to embrace it as fashionably as I can. Leggings are the perfect solution: comfy, yet flattering, stylish and so versatile, they can be teamed with any shoes or top and look good. These ones from American Apparel are great quality as well as a really nice fit; they will last and last and last. The top I decided to wear with them this time was this gorgeous one that I saw in Primark a few weeks ago. I love the colours, the shape and the awesome faux leather patches- and of course the bargainous price tag that goes with it! A chunky necklace dresses up any outfit, and is a great item to have as it looks like you've made an effort on those days when you really can't be bothered. I love this one, which was a birthday present from a top friend, as it's got both silver and gold in it so goes with all my handbags- winner! Last, but certainly not least, these Puma trainers were kindly given to me by Get The Label, one of my favourite companies as the staff are so lovely and their trainers and clothes are always such good prices! I've been looking for some black trainers for ages now as I do quite a lot of walking (whether it be to uni or shopping- I certainly rack up the miles!) and so comfy yet stylish footwear is an essential for me. These black trainers go with everything; they look great with leggings or skinny jeans, especially when you show a bit of ankle like I have. They can also be teamed with dresses or dungarees for a cheeky, sporty twist to your outfit. The black suede makes them so easy to wear and is great for going into AW/13.

I've been wanting to try this Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray for a while as a love a bit of volume in my hair. So, when I saw that it was free with Elle magazine this month I jumped at the chance! Bumble and Bumble is a hair company that have intrigued me for ages as I've heard and read so many good reviews on so many of their products, needless to say I was excited to try this one!
How to use: I spray it around my hair after I've sprayed my heat defence spray and blow dried it slightly, when it is still damp but not dripping wet. It really does make my hair look thicker when dried without making it sticky or hard like I thought it might. It's very light weight and provides a very natural but volumous finish. It also provides that extra grip to make styling hair easier.
I'm not one for spending a lot on haircare, and I don't use or have that many hair products, but this one has fast become a hair staple for me. It makes such a difference; it adds so much volume to my hair, yet is very low maintenance and easy to add into my hair routine. It is pricey, but it is lasting me absolutely ages because you don't need to spray much each time.
I would definitely recommend this Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray, it really adds an extra oomph to your hair and it has become a holy grail product for me- I will be buying the full size version as soon as it runs out!
Has anyone else tried it? What are your thoughts? Does anyone fancy getting it now?
Price: £21.50 for 250ml (Available to buy at Boots)

Belt: American Apparel
Shoes: New Look
I feel in love with this dress as soon as I saw it in Topshop. The print is so unique and bold, it really makes a statement. I love the Japanese, oriental art influence in the pattern and design. The clashing colours, especially the emerald green and the gold, make it really different. Wearing it made me feel pretty and elegant- what more could you wish for in a dress than that?! On its own it looked nice, but I added this suede waist belt to make it even more flattering around my waist. Finally, the addition of my trusty New Look heels (which just seem to go with EVERYTHING- I do love them!) made me all set for the brilliant party that I was going to.
What do you think of this dress? Is anyone else loving bold prints or Japanese-style garments at the moment?

I have always been concerned about the damage caused to my hair through brushing it while it is wet. Despite the worry about damaging it, I feel I do have to brush it when it's wet, otherwise it does not look as nice when it's dried- quite the predicament hey?! An item which caught my eye in the hope of solving this pickle was the Tangle Teezer. I have heard lots of good things about the Tangle Teezer from various other blogs and in magazines, so when I got this one in the Selfridfge's Beauty Box a while ago I was very pleased. The colour is lovely too!
This Aqua Splash one is supposed to be used while in the shower to brush through your hair when you have either shampoo or conditioner on it. It is hollow all the way through and so will sit nicely in the shower and the water will run off it quickly and easily, ensuring it will never get mouldy or anything! However, I have not actually been using it in the shower myself, as I have found that when brushing my hair in the shower, absoultely loads falls out. So, I have been using this Aqua Splash Tangle Teezer when I get out, just before I blow dry my hair (after towel drying it). It's so gentle; I have noticed significantly less hair falls out when I brush it. It makes knots come out very easily, without any pain inflicted or any tugging required- something which is very damaging to hair.
For anyone who's hair regularly comes out when they wash it, like mine, I would definitely recommend investing in a Tangle Teezer. It's better for your hair, stops as much coming out, and is very gentle and so gets rid of knots painlessly.
Price: £10.99 for a normal Tangle Teeezer or £13.99 for this Aqua Splash one (Both are available at Boots).

Recently, my boyfriend and I celebrated passing our first year in our PhDs. Wanting to mark the occasion in a special way, we decided to go to Cloud 23, the famous bar in the Hilton, Manchester.
It certainly did make the occasion a very special one. The bar is luxury personified; I felt pampered and very upper class! The bar has its own lift (as shown in the photo) and when we arrived at the top, we were taken to a table by the waitress. The views were breathtaking. The bar consists of floor to ceiling windows all the way around, displaying the whole of Manchester- including the two football stadiums and the airport! It is all table service, so you don't even have to get up to order or pay. It goes without saying that the cocktails were gorgeous!
I would strongly recommend visiting Cloud 23, even if it is just for one drink, as it really does take your breath away.
Has anyone else been to Cloud 23? Does anyone fancy visiting?

Short Kimono- Topshop
T-shirt- River Island
I've long admired the gorgeous patterns, colours and designs of the Japanese kimono, yet never been brave enough to style one myself. This gorgeous one from Topshop has been in my wardrobe for ages, where I have looked at it fondly and often stroked it, but failed to wear it. Finally, I decided enough was enough and it was time to be brave. Due to the bold nature of the kimono, I styled the rest of my outfit in as simple a way as possible, sticking to monchrome tones and minimal pattens. This way, the kimono did the talking, as such a beautiful item should.

For the last few weeks, I have been using Estee Lauder's Sumptuous Extreme mascara. This mascara did make a difference to my lashes, although I would not call it 'extreme'- I think the title is slightly misleading in this respect. It is quite a natural difference; it's not a huge, dramatic impact. It's good for a daytime mascara and for anyone that wants to create a subtle, natural look. It curled my eyelashes and made them look thicker at the roots. My only real criticism about this mascara is that when my eyes started running, it did sting them quite a lot. For this reason I would not recommend it to anyone that has watery or runny eyes, or sensitive eyes for that matter.
Overall, this mascara made my lashes look thicker, and would be good for creating a minimalist, natural look. However, it doesn't have the same WOW factor that I think Benefit They're Real! does, and for this reason I will be sticking to They're Real!.
What do you think? Has anyone else tried this mascara?

The concept of this book is scary because it’s realistic that science could cure love now/ eventually as they are curing diseases all the time. The procedure seemed horrendous- like people's very personalities were being zapped out of them! It was also scary, when they were listing the symptoms of love, how it could so easily be perceived as a disease. The quickening heart rate etc, it's so clever as all that is true, I'd just never considered it to be similar to symptoms of a disease!
Delirium made me realise that life is nothing without love- it actually made me be really thankful for being able to be in a relationship with the person I want to be in one with. It makes you view pain and heartbreak in a different way, and think that it's worth it in the end because it's these feelings that make us real and make us appreciate the love that we have when we have it.
At the beginning of each chapter Oliver includes a quote from the anti-love propaganda, showing how it is portrayed as a disease by the government. I'm fascinated by totalitarian regimes, having studied Stalinist Russia and Hitler's Nazi Germany at uni, and I find how propaganda can brainwash people really interesting- it's so clever and manipulative.
I read this book very quickly; it really picked up towards the end and I loved all the shocks and twists that were included! It ended on a cliffhanger and I haven't stopped thinking about it since! Luckily it's a trilogy so I've already ordered the next book (Pandemonium) and will be starting it as soon as it lands on my doormat!
Has anyone else read Delirium? What did you think? Does anyone fancy reading it now?

These items are ones that are absolutely essential for me and always travel with me in my handbag....
Obviously my purse is an essential item and, as it is carried everywhere with me, I think it's nice to invest in one that I love. I treated myself to this Lanvin one at Christmas and it's definitely the nicest purse I've ever owned. The quality is wonderful; I feel very classy getting it out of my bag.
There's only so long I can go in heels- I know I'm a wuss! These roll-a-flats are brilliant for slipping your bag as they come in this little pouch which, when opened up, turns into a shopping bag for your heels- genius!
Powder, Blusher and Lip Gloss
These are the makeup items that I always carry with me when on the go. I have quite oily skin so powder is an essential item for me to top up throughout the day. The blusher ensures that I still have a touch of colour on my face if I do sweep the powder on it. I always have a lipgloss handy to keep my lips moisturised and looking nice too.
I would panic if I did not have this in my bag. I am a true germaphobe and my antibacterial gel comes with me everywhere- God forbid if I didn't have it when I needed to eat something haha!
Fresh Breath Spray
I always want to make sure I have nice smelling breath, but chewing gum is not always practical for work so this is a great solution to spray now and again.
I am always making lists- to do lists, to buy lists, you name it I'll have a list for it! So this cute little notebook is never far away from me. It contains several 'To Buy' lists (all in different categories such as makeup, skincare, clothes etc) so when I'm out shopping I spend my money on products/ items that I actually want, reducing impulse purchases (in theory!).
Iphone complete with gorgeous Kate Spade Case*.
I have finally joined the Apple revolution and got my very first Iphone- hurrah! Having previously used a very old Blackberry, the Iphone is a breath of fresh air- I'm so impressed with how easy and how quick it is! As phones are becoming fashion accessories these days, I was on the look out for a snazzy case. As fate would have it, Three mobile contacted me last week and sent me this gorgeous Kate Spade New York case. It's exactly what I was looking for, so cute, simple and stylish- I keep pulling it out of my bag at every opportunity!
What do you think of my essential items? What are yours?

When I first put it on I thought "oh god do I look like a drag queen?!" but after being brave and not wiping it off, I took a few photos and got used to it, then I started to quite like it.... and then love it! It's a brand new look for me and although I got a little surprise everytime I looked in the mirror, it was a surprise in a good way! It really is a statement and I don't know what's been holding me back before!
The colour is so bold. This particular one is a 'matt lipstick', in colour 206. It's really unusual, like a mixture of pink, red and orange all rolled into one. It's softer than a bright red lip and so easier to start off with for a bright-lip newbie like myself. The colour is very pigmented. It lasted a whopping 3 hours on my lips before it needed reapplying- very impressive considering the purse-friendly price tag!
For anyone else that has never tried a bold lipstick, I urge you to be brave and go for it!

I must confess I am very lazy when it comes to putting body lotion on; it seems like a chore and I often don't have time or can't be bothered to put it on. So, when I came across this Vaseline Spray & Go Body Moisturiser in Boots a few weeks ago it seemed the perfect solution to my laziness and I was very excited to try it and see whether it worked.
There are three versions: a cocoa butter one, a normal one and this aloe vera one. When testing them in the shop, the aloe vera one was my favourite; it smells gorgeous- so fresh! You simply spray it all over your body and it comes out like a mist, moisturising it. You can quickly rub it in or let it dry on its own, but it doesn't take long at all and there is no residue left on your clothes if you put them on straight away. Like it says on the bottle, it really is not greasey and it sinks in so quickly. I actually look forward to spraying it all over my body when I get out the shower as it's so refreshing- especially in the hot weather we've had recently.
I can't recommend this product enough, I now use it daily- It's the lazy girl's dream!
What do you think? Has anyone else tried this?
Price: £4.99 Available at Boots.

Here are my favourite products from July....
Clarins Lip Gloss
-I love this lip gloss, it's probably my favourite lip gloss ever in fact! The colour is so natural that I can wear it anytime. It's also really moisturising and it tastes amazing- absolute perfection in my book! (Read my full review here).
Barry M Mint Green Jelly Nail Polish
-I have used this bright, mint green nail varnish at least twice in July- a rarity for me as I usually leave quite long gaps between using the same nail varnish. It's such a gorgeous, summery colour, and it goes with so much. I love it; it's a really easy way to make a bold statement with your nails at a purse-friendly price.
Clarins Fix It Spray
-Due to the extremely hot (and nice!) weather in July I felt that my makeup needed an extra bit of help to stay in place all day. This Fix It spray from Clarins acts as a sort of hairspray for your makeup, keeping it on longer. It comes out as a spray-mist and is really refreshing. I sprayed it every morning after appling my makeup and it certainly made a difference.
Nars Laguna Bronzer
-I cannot apply fake tan to my face at the moment as I'm getting quite a few spots and do not want to create any more, so this bronzer has been used a lot by me to create a lightly tanned, healthy glow on my face. It stays on all day and simply makes me look much better! (Read my full review here).
Clarins Fake Tan
-Not a fan of sun damage, I rarely give my skin a chance to burn or tan properly so a little bit of harmless fake tan is a summer essential for me. This one from Clarins not only smells lovely (cocoa butter!) but it is moisturising (perfect for the summer!) and it never streaks- what more could you ask for in a fake tan?! I always apply it with a mitt to ensure it stays streak free- this one was from Bodycare and cost £1.99. (Read my full review here).
-This is a holy grail product for me; it's always in my handbag for touch-ups whenever I need it. Due to the hot weather, I found myself reaching for this powder more than ever and it ensured that my face was always evenly covered and matte. (Read my full review here).
Charlie Body Spray
-This bodyspray is so refreshing, it's been lovely having it in my bag to cool myself with and ensure that I smell nice when out and about. I love the smell of the Charlie bodysprays, this one and the pink one are my faves :) (Read my full review here).
Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil
-This has been a godsend over the last couple of months. It takes all my makeup off (including eye makeup and tough mascara!) in one wash. I simply rub it into my dry face and then wash it off with water. It's so gentle, it doesn't sting my eyes at all and, best of all, it's so quick and easy. I can't live without this cleanser now! (Read my full review here).
So these are my favourite products for July, what do you think of them? What have been your favourite products this last month?

Necklace: Lasula Boutique
I have a special affection for denim shirts, I own three of them and wear them all the time. They can be thrown on over anything to add a cool, 90s edge to the outfit, all year round. Although they go with pretty much everything, I especially love teaming denim shirts with dresses. This could be a sexy outfit on its own, but with the addition of the shirt (worn normally or tied around the waist as I have done here) it is brought back down to daytime and looks a bit retro.
The white Dune heels are perfect for summer and I'm trying to wear them with as many outfits as possible at the moment while the sun lasts! Finally, this long, chunky necklace further dresses down quite a dressy-dress, complimenting the denim shirt and daytime look.
What do you think? Does anyone else love denim shirts like I do?
