NOTD: Essie Sole Mate

I love this nail polish! It's a really elegant burgandy, deep plum colour that will go with any outfit. It really does look gorgeous on and it is my favourite nail polish at the moment. You can layer it up to look darker depending on the colour that you're after; three coats of this and it would almost look black, whereas just the one creates a rich plum colour. It stays chip-free for around three days and has a gorgeous, glossy finish to it. Essie is one of my favourite brands for nail varnish; they have some beautiful and unusual shades that always look more expensive than they are. The brushes are quite thick, which make them very easy and quick to apply.

What do you think? Has anyone else tried Essie Sole Mate?

Clarins Extra-Comfort Anti-Pollution Cleanser

Clarins have brought out a new cleanser that eliminates all traces of pollution on the face. Living in Manchester City Centre, being surrounded by pollution all the time, is something that does bother me, and so it feels great to know that this cleanser will strip it all from my face. It is suitable for all skin types and the key ingredient is Moringa Seed, which is known in India as 'the miracle tree'. The seed completely rids the skin of all traces of pollution and acts as a barrier to pollution particles. The Moringa Seed also works to keep the skin looking youthful and radiant.

In terms of applying it, it felt more like a cream that I then washed off, it doesn't foam up at all. The scent is scrumptious! Very fresh and quite fruity- certainly refreshing and pleasant to use.

The first thing that struck me when using this cleanser was how gentle it was on my skin. I think it's the most gentle cleanser I've ever used. My skin usually feels a little tight whenever I wash it but with this cleanser it didn't feel tight or dry at all.  My skin felt very soft when it dried, so much so that I almost forgot to put moisturiser on the other day because it felt like I'd already done it! My skin also looked much brighter and 'radiant' after using this cleanser, which is something that surprised me when I looked in the mirror!

Overall I would definitely recommend this cleanser. I've been quite poorly, with a bad case of flu, over the last week and this has been the only cleanser or toner that has not stung (or even tingled) the delicate broken skin around my over-blown nose, thus again showing how gentle it is. I will be using it as my second cleanser in the evenings (so after I've removed my makeup) in order to remove all the city pollution and yuckiness that's on my face. How satisfying!

What do you think about this cleanser?

OOTD: Leather and Blue

Jacket: Firetrap
Dress: Glamorous
Necklace: Primark
Boots: New Look

Just because the weather is dull and dreary doesn't mean my outfit has to be! This dress from Glamorous is vibrant and sexy, and so I toned it down with my leather jacket and chunky wedge boots for a house party. I finished it off with a chunky, statement necklace, and a bright pink lippy!

What do you think of my outfit? Is anyone else a fan of bright dresses and leather jackets?

How To Get The Perfect Eyebrows

Never underestimate how important your eyebrows are to your overall appearance. Eyebrows frame the whole face, and when looking their best they really enhance a person's prettiness. These are the tools that I use to get my eyebrows in tip-top condition...

Prep
First of all I pluck all the stray hairs around the eyebrows. I only pluck from underneath to ensure that the natural arch and shape of the brow is maintained. Next I take an eyebrow comb and brush all the hairs upwards, and then trim the edges with curved scissors to ensure that fly-aways are minimised.

Enhance
To fill my brows in and make them look better, I take a very small brush (as shown the picture above) and put a bit of powder on it. It is important to ensure that the colour of the powder matches your natural brow colour as closely as possible as otherwise the brows can look too fake. I really recommend the HD Brows palette for this, which comes in a variety of different shades to suit different complexions (I have the Foxy one). I like that I am able to mix the colours together to create the perfect shade for me. Another good brow powder is Benefit Brow-Zings, which I also use regularly, although now I've discovered the HD Brows one I think I'll stick to that one in the future. When your are applying the powder, concentrate more on the inner brow- the part closest to your nose- as that's where most of the hair is. When applying the powder along the brows go sparingly towards the edges as, again, you don't want it to look artificial. Finally I set my brows with eyebrow gel to ensure that they stay in place and filled-in all day. I'd  recommend the Illamasqua Brow Setting Gel for this as it works really well and doesn't leave any residue behind!

What do you think of my brow tutorial? What eyebrow products do you use?

Midi Rings

Midi rings are a fashion trend that I'm loving at the moment! I think the best way to describe the way they look is simply cool and a bit quirky. Although midi rings are likely to be a fad, they add a unique twist to accessorising your outfit. They're a bit of fun and so I wouldn't spend a lot of money on midi rings, but £1.50 for a pack of three in Primark is the bargain of the year for me! In the photo above I've got my two favourite on, and they frame the Tiffany's ring on my middle finger perfectly. Who says Tiffany's and Primark can't mix?!

What do you think of midi rings?

Veet Spray On Hair Removal Cream

I regularly use hair removal cream on my arms and I'm always looking for products that will make it easier, less messy and quicker without causing any reaction to my skin. A spray on version seemed to fit the bill perfectly so I thought it was worth giving this one a go when I saw it in Boots the other week. My skin is quite sensitive and some hair removal products have caused a rash in the past, although I've never had any trouble with the Veet Sensitive range so was fairly confident that I'd be fine with this one.

I sprayed the cream on from about 30 cm away and left it on for ten minutes. First of all, this is certainly not less messy than normal hair removal creams; I'd say it was more messy in fact! I stood in the bath to apply this to my arms and managed to get it all over the bottom of the bath and all over the shower curtain. Secondly, I found it quite stiff to spray at first and struggled to do my first arm, particularly the underside of it.  However, for the second arm I'd got the hang of it and the spray was much easier to press and so took less than 30 seconds to do. I sprayed quite a thick layer of cream on each arm as there's quite a lot of hair on them. I also left it on for the maximum time, maybe even slightly over 10 minutes, and then washed it off in the (warm) shower whilst scraping the cream off with the little plastic tool. It took a couple of scrapes but the hair removal cream did it's job well and got rid of all the hair on my arms- something that not all hair removal creams actually do for me. I didn't get any rash and my arms were silky smooth for days afterwards.

So, all in all, a messy application process but very quick and great results. I will be using this again in the future.

Does anyone else use hair removal cream? Has anyone else tried this one? What do you think?

Lush The Olive Branch Shower Gel

This Lush shower gel smells absolutely gorgeous! It's a blend of olive oil, mandarins, bergamot oil and vine leaves. This makes the scent really fresh-smelling and natural. I think it could be unisex, as it's not too sweet and certainly not florally, but fruity and herbally smelling. It reminds me of Molten Brown shower gels in the way it smells actually; very luxurious and expensive.

The olive oil does separate, naturally, and so goes to the top of the bottle. The bottle recommends giving it a good shake before using it in order to make sure the olive oil is all mixed in. However, no matter how much I shake it, it never seems to fully mix in together. It is very runny to use, I'd prefer it to be a little thicker, but this is my only criticism. A little bit goes a long way so I do think you get your money's worth.

The best thing about this shower gel is how soft my skin feels after using it. My skin does go a bit dry in the cold weather and so washing with this is really hydrating it and making it silky smooth to touch. A definite winner in my eyes!

Does anyone else like Lush's shower gels? Which ones would you recommend?

A January Haul!

I was lucky enough to receive a few vouchers for Christmas and so I've hit the sales this month. Although I love a bargain and enjoy looking at the sales, I've learnt to think very carefully about each purchase and whether I reallllllly want it. This has led to me putting lots of items back and is partly why I've bought some full price items instead, as I've liked them more.

Here's what I've bought....

Fitness Crop Top and Leggings from Sports Direct
I know, the world and his dog vow to keep fit when making their January Resolutions, but I really am taking it seriously this year. I bought this crop top and leggings from Sports Direct in the sale for when I do my workouts at  home. So far, so good!

Black Jeggings from Next
Black skinny jeans are a wardrobe staple and these ones are really comfy as they're so stretchy- hence the cross between jeans and leggings! Next do the petite leg length as well which is perfect for me as I'm quite short!

Tartan Leggings from Topshop
Tartan has been everywhere this A/W and I love that these leggings are a bit different with a green and navy design. They'll look great teamed with a black/ white top and black ankle boots.

Grey Coat from Zara
My guilty pleasure is shopping  in the kids sections in some stores. Zara kids is brilliant; really fashionable clothes at half the price of the womens section! This coat will look great teamed with my black jeggings, a white printed tee and black boots.

Pink Jumper from H&M
This is another kids special! I love the colour of this jumper, it'll look great teamed with a pair of jeans and converse for a casual day outfit.

Armani She Pefume Set
I love this perfume. It's sophisticated, subtle, and it's been one of my favourite (if not my actual favourite) perfume for years now. Boots have got a brilliant sale on all their perfume gift sets and I got this perfume, along with a matching body lotion and shower gel for just £30!

Georgio Armani Maestro Foundation
This is a repurchase as I've loved this foundation for a while now. It provides a great level of coverage and is very matte; perfect for my oily/combination skin.

MAC Eyeliner in Coffee
I usually wear brown eyeliner during the day as it looks more natural and, as I had some Selfridges vouchers, I thought I'd treat myself to this one from MAC. I'll let you know how I get on!

Kindle Case from Paperchase
This case is so pretty! It's felt material, looks handmade and is perfect for keeping my kindle protected when it's in my bag.

Kindle Books
The Universe versus Alex Woods by Gavin Extence
This book was highly recommended to me by sister and it has lots of rave reviews on Amazon.
The blurb says:
'A tale of an unexpected friendship, an unlikely hero and an improbable journey, Alex's story treads the fine line between light and dark, laughter and tears. And it might just strike you as one of the funniest, most heartbreaking novels you've ever read'
I can't wait to read it!

The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty
This is a book that I've had in my Amazon wish list for a while now as it was recommended to me by my friend Emma and it has lots of 5 star reviews. It went down to just over £1.50 last week and so I didn't hesitate to buy it!
The blurb says:
'Mother of three and wife of John-Paul, Cecilia discovers an old envelope in the attic. Written in her husband's hand, it says: to be opened only in the event of my death. Curious, she opens it - and time stops. John-Paul's letter confesses to a terrible mistake which, if revealed, would wreck their family as well as the lives of others. Cecilia - betrayed, angry and distraught - wants to do the right thing, but right for who? If she protects her family by staying silent, the truth will worm through her heart. But if she reveals her husband's secret, she will hurt those she loves most...'
Sounds brilliant!

What do you think of my purchases?

Beauty Wish List: Skin Care For Oily/ Combination Skin

I am always on the look out for skin care products that will improve my oily/combination, blemish prone skin. These are the five products that I've got my eye on at the moment, having heard and read good things about them over the last few months.

Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner
This toner has featured on most blogs that I read and is widely praised in the beauty blogging world. I use two toners in my skincare routine: an exfoliating one, which removes dead skin cells and unclogs pores, and a hydrating one, usually in the form of a mist, which adds essential  moisture back into the skin after cleansing (I've just starting using Caudalie Beauty Elixir- I'll keep you posted as to how I get on!). The Clarins exfoliating toner seems to work well at clearing up the skin and sounds like what I need. I can't wait to try it!

Alpha-H Liquid Gold
This is another cult product in the beauty world. It should be used around 3 times a week at night time, after cleansing, in place of toner, and should be left to work alone (i.e. without moisturiser on top of it) over night, in order to create a more even and glowing skin tone. Again, I've read so many good reviews about this product that I'm very intrigued about it and would love to try it. This can be bought from Cultbeauty in the UK.

REN ClearCalm3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser
This cleanser is aimed at blemish prone skin and seems to tick all the boxes that I'm after. REN is a brand that I'm fairly new to, although I've wanted to try their products for a while because they're natural and highly thought of. I've been using the REN ClearCalm3 night serum, which is part of this range, and so far it seems to be working quite well, so the cleanser is next on my wish list. This can be bought from Marks & Spencer's in the UK.

Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask
This is another product that seems to be in every beauty blogger's cupboard, and that has received very high praise. It is a face mask that includes manuka honey, which hydrates it intensely, as well as cleansing it and providing an anti-oxidising treatment. I think I'm going to be buying this VERY soon as it just sounds amazing; both hydrating and blemish zapping! This can be bought from feelunique.

Elemental Herbology Moisture Milk
I came across this moisturiser after reading about it on the wonderful Jennypurr blog. It is a moisturiser specifically aimed at blemish-prone skin. It claims to 'balance oiliness, resolve congestion and shield against ageing oxidative damage'. This can be bought from Space NK or feelunique in the UK.

What do you think about my skin care wish list?  Have you tried any of these products? What are your product recommendations?

OOTN: Jumpin'

Blazer: H&M
Jumpsuit: Topshop
Waist Belt: American Apparel
Boots: Getthelabel.com*

I've admired jumpsuits for ages now and always think women look great wearing them (I loved Sam Faiers's white one from AQ/AQ on the CBB launch!). I've had this one from Topshop quite a while now, but, for some reason, I've always been a little too scared to wear it. I finally took the plunge this Christmas and went for it. I felt so sophisticated and chic, I will definitely be wearing it more often now. The way the jumpsuit comes in at the waist makes it very flattering, and if you're a little insecure about your thighs like I am, then a  bootcut trouser makes your legs look longer and slimmer. I'd really recommend a black jumpsuit to anyone, you can't really go wrong as they look both elegant and fashionable. I've teamed mine with a bright, statement blazer from H&M, which provides a great contrast to the black and gives the outfit an extra dose of fashionability. Finally, these gorgeous little boots from Get The Label always make me feel dressed up and add a laid-back touch of sexiness.

What do you think about jumpsuits?

Beauty Products That I Received For Christmas

I received a few beauty products for Christmas, none of which I've ever used before and so I'm excited to try them all. This is what I got...

The Perfume Studio Make Your Own Perfume
This is a brilliant idea and a fantastic present! My boyfriend's parents got it for me and they've once again proven how well they know me as I love making things and being a bit creative, and I also love perfume- a girl can never have too many! I can't wait to mix and match the different scents to create my own unique perfume! Amazing present!

LUSH Olive Shower Gel
I love going into the LUSH shop and having a good smell of all their gorgeous products, but I've never actually bought anything apart from the lip scrub. I was absolutely delighted, therefore, when I received this off my boyfriend's aunty. It smells so nice and fresh, I can't wait to use it! I have a feeling that I'll be buying many more LUSH shower gels in the future because of this!

Marks and Spencer's Body Lotion
I've been quite impressed with M&S's beauty section recently. They've got some great brands in there, such as REN and Jurlique, and so it seems as if they're really branching out and taking beauty seriously now. I received this body lotion as a stocking filler from my parents and it smells gorgeous. It seems quite thick and so looks like it will be very moisturising.

Jimmy Choo Flash Perfume
This is perfume that I'd never smelt before and so it was lovely to receive as a present from my Nanna and Grandad. It's quite sweet and is the perfect day fragrance. It's a really nice change from my normal scent and a lovely smell.

Estee Lauder Lipgloss
I'm a big Estee Lauder fan so loved opening this present from my parents. Estee Lauder lipglosses always look really nice, aren't stick and taste yummy! This is a subtle red colour and one that I look forward to wearing- reviews to follow!

Bobbi Brown Party To Go Set and Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Palette
My sister went to America a couple of month's ago and bought me these two Bobbi Brown sets while she was over there. What an amazing present to unwrap!! The eyeshadow palette has some absolutely gorgeous shades in it, all of which I will wear. I love creams, browns and blacks as they suit my brown eyes and brown hair. I can mix and match depending on whether I want to go for a neutral look or a smokey eye. She also got my the Bobbi Brown Party To Go set which has a mascara, an eyeliner and eye makeup remover in it. I've never tried the Bobbi Brown mascara or eyeliner and can't wait to use them! I'm definitely an eye makeup junkie- I can't live without eyeliner and mascara and so this was a brilliant present to receive.

Thank you to everyone who got me some amazing presents this year! What presents did you get? What do you think of these items?

Empties

I did not use up many products this month, but the ones that I did are all firm favourites of mine, and will definitely be repurchased in the future.

Benefit POREfessional
This is a Holy Grail product for me. In fact, I'd go as far as to say this is the number one product that I could not live without. I have oily/combination skin and so, without POREfessional as a base, my makeup wouldn't last an hour. I use POREfessional everyday, it's the best primer I've ever tried. It keeps my makeup on all day and stops my face from being shiny. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
Repurchase? YES.

No 7 Eyeliner in Brown
The No 7 eyeliners are products that I've been purchasing for absolutely years, both in brown and black. Recently I've noticed that they've changed them slightly, making them hard to apply until they've been sharpened. This is annoying, but at least they're good once they've been sharpened. They stay in place all day and do not run, working just as well, if not better, than high end eyeliners that I've tried, but for a cheaper price.
Repurchase? Yes but I hope they improve soon.

Estee Lauder Daywear Oil-Free Moisturiser
This moisturiser is really hydrating and refreshing. It smells of cucumber and so is very soothing and pleasant to apply. As my skin is quite oily, I get the oil-free version which is much better for me. It's doing a great job of hydrating my skin in this miserable weather.
Repurchase? Yes.

Lady Million Perfume
I love this perfume and I'm very sad that it's run out. It's a sweet, yet sexy kind of scent and I think it's great to wear both in the day and in the evening. I always get compliments when I wear this and it's in my top three favourite perfumes of all time.
Repurchase? Yes.

Jo Malone Candle in Blackberry and Bay
I know this isn't technically a beauty item but I am so sad that it is finished. It is the first Jo Malone candle that I have ever had; it was a present from my lovely Mum after I'd been in hospital a few times a couple of months ago. I've used it every day since and the smell is just heavenly. I live in a two bedroom flat and if I light this in my bedroom the scent completely fills the whole flat within half an hour, it's absolutely brilliant. I'm seriously considering indulging in another one to combat the January blues!
Repurchase? Yes!

What do you think of these products?
